After more than two years of design work, EVCO Plastics, a leading custom plastics manufacturer, has officially begun expansion at its MED facility in DeForest, Wisconsin. The 50,000-square-foot addition will more than double the size of the facility, making it 84,000 square feet. Included in the expansion plans is EVCO’s ISO Class 8 clean room, which will triple to 30,000 square feet.
MED is comprised of offices, warehouse storage and molding space for components, medical devices, medical packaging and medical housings. Currently, MED has 16 presses, and the expansion will allow for 15–20 more, depending on press size. The addition will not only increase EVCO’s capacity, but put a refined focus on continuing to improve the processes put in place for molding medical parts. More physical space, combined with leading technical advancements and new machinery, will allow EVCO to continue to be at the forefront of molding and manufacturing high-tech medical parts.
To commemorate the day, EVCO, along with integral members of CG Schmidt, EVCO’s construction management company, shoveled away the first few loads of dirt, marking the start of the expansion. Additionally, Dale Evans, President of EVCO, was presented with two golden shovels embossed with EVCO’s logo to mark the significance of the project.
“We’ve experienced a lot of growth and development over the past few years—from our expansion in Georgia to our new facility in China—which has been great,” said Evans. “After assessing our customer’s needs, we knew it was the right time to advance our business capabilities back home in DeForest, building on the premises for the first time in 29 years.”
Overall, the expansion will improve operations, enhance the work environment for employees and position EVCO Plastics for the future. The addition to MED is expected to be fully operational by the end of February 2018.
